Whys and Wherefores

Since this is the first post, I figured it should contain some sort of explanation or mission statement. I seldom read blog profiles so I don't expect other people to go digging after mine. All the information is here:

I am a communications professional working in Ottawa, ON Canada. After years of considering people who consider my part of the planet to be the great white north to be ignorant, I've come to my senses. We have six month winters - it's a fact. People who live in Canada endure more cold than 90 per cent of humanity so OK, you're right, we're frozen up here.

This blog is about random occurences, wishes made in haste - granted and sometimes regretted, politics, housing, being human, having a grain of common sense in a world where that seems to be surprisingly rare and yet still having to relearn on a daily basis all the major, basic lessons of life. It's also about art sometimes, symbolism sometimes, cultural analysis and food.

I'm a published poet who takes long breaks from publishing, an irregular online columnist for a virtual reality tabloid, a media analyst and policy wonk but primarily a writer. My education is in the area of culture and communication, just about everything has the capacity to catch my interest. Somebody giving expert advice on the CBC said your blog should be tightly focused on one subject. Since I've never benefitted from taking advice on how to be successful, I'm ignoring him.

In other words, I'm every second person online and this is my blog.
